Kia EV3 and EV4 Concept Models: Sustainable Materials

Kia’s revolutionary Concept EV3 and EV4 showcase a paradigm shift in interior design, focusing on sustainability. The CMF (Colour, Materials, Finish) design team drew inspiration from nature, incorporating leading-edge sustainable materials to create environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing interiors.

Kia Concept EV3: Lightweight Seating and Natural Fibers

For the EV3, Kia’s CMF team opted for natural fiber structures to craft lightweight seats with elegant aesthetics and nature-inspired color tones. The 3D Knit technology applied to seat covers not only achieves a visually stunning 3D effect but also enhances efficiency with reduced stitching and zero waste.

The game-changing element in the Concept EV3 is the use of mycelium, derived from mushroom roots, for the console table. Marília Biill, Head of CMF Design, emphasizes the material’s strength and soft surface, achieved through bio fabrication. This innovative approach aligns with Kia’s Sustainability Strategy, aiming to simplify processes and be closer to nature.

Kia Concept EV4: Earth-Inspired Tonalities and Handwoven Fabrics

Drawing inspiration from the element Earth, the EV4 cabin showcases natural dyes on 100% recycled cotton, using madder roots and walnut shells for unique tonalities. Handwoven fabric stripes add a 3D effect to the storage area and dashboard, emphasizing Kia’s commitment to uniqueness and exceptional quality.

To further enhance the Concept EV4’s console table, Kia’s CMF designers turned to hemp fibers, a sustainable and versatile material with a beautiful rich color. This aligns with Kia’s dedication to incorporating eco-friendly elements into their vehicles.

10 Must-Have Sustainable Items Across All Kia Models

Kia’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the concept vehicles. The brand has a history of integrating sustainable materials, dating back to the 2014 Soul EV. With the introduction of the EV9 flagship electric SUV, Kia unveiled 10 must-have sustainable items for all new models.

These include bioplastic, sourced from biomass such as vegetable oils and sugarcane, used in vehicle components like dashboards and consoles. Bio Polyurethane (PU) replaces traditional leather, incorporating plant-based components for optimal support and durability. Kia also offers vehicle carpets made from 100% recycled PET, with the option of sourcing a portion from recycled fishing nets.

As Kia paves the way for a sustainable future, explore the innovative materials shaping the interior design of the EV3 and EV4 concept models.
